Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Richard Michael HINDS was born to parents Daniel and Hilda HINDS (both deceased) in the parish of Portland. He attended the Windsor Castle All Age School from 1978 to 1987 ad then the Buff Bay Secondary School now Buff Bay High School from 1987 to 1990.

In January 1994, he joined Jamaica Defence Force. He completed the following courses, PNCO’s Cadre, JNCO’s Cadre, SNCO’s Cadre, Warrant Officers Course, Basic Urban Skills Training, Advance Drill Course, International Professional Advance Leadership (USA), All Arms Service Fund Course, Range Management Qualification, First Sergeant Course (USA), Int’l Professional Advance Leadership Course (USA), Supervisory Management Course (UWI Open Campus), Assessor Course (VDTI), State Protocol and Business Etiquette Course (MIND), Training and Development Level 4 Course and Unit Command Team Course in Canada .

Since joining the JDF, he served at Sp and Svcs Bn as a Military Police from 1994 to 2002, Mil Trg Wing as a Squad Instructor from 2002 to 2007, 2 JR as a Section Commander from 2007 to 2008, Platoon Sergeant from 2008 to 2011, Mil Trg Wing from 2011 to 2013 as a Training Sergeant and as Chief Instructor from 2013 to 2017, Coy Sgt Maj Admin Wing, Dir of Doct and Trg 2017 to 2018 and Coy Sgt Maj, CIMPE 2018 to 2021, Acting RSM Cbt Sp Bn 2021 to 2022 RSM Jca Regt (4JR) 2022 to 2023 and RSM 10 Th Bn JNSC to July 2025 and BTSM JNR July 2025 to current.

He was deployed to St Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Bermuda to assist the Caribbean Partner with Cricket World Cup in 2007. In 2009, he went to Trinidad and Tobago to assist with Traffic and Security for the Fifth Summit of the Americas. In 2010, he was deployed to Haiti for Operation Restore Democracy.

He is the recipient of the Medal of Honour for General Service (Clasp), Medal of Honour for Long Service and Good Conduct and Queen’s Diamond Victoria Jubilee and Platinum Medals, 1 st Bar to Medal of Honour for Long Service and Good Conduct and Commendation of Excellence.

He is married to Mrs Constantine MAYNE HINDS and has three (3) children Jhanae, Jhanique and Nataliya.

His hobbies are playing football and volleyball.
