Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) D F Miller was born on February 25, 1968, in the parish of St James, Jamaica, to Hazel and Sebert Miller. His early education began at Montego Bay Infant School, followed by Barracks Road Primary School, and later Cornwall College, all within his hometown parish.
Driven by a sense of duty and service, Dwight Miller enlisted in the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) National Reserves on June 9, 1989. He underwent basic training at Up Park Camp as part of intake 8901. Shortly after, he was assigned to Delta Company of the Third Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve), serving first as a Rifleman before receiving training as a Medical Orderly in 1990.
His military career has been marked by steady progression through the ranks, reflecting his dedication and leadership. After completing the Potential Non-Commissioned Officers’ Cadre, he was promoted to Lance Corporal in 2004. The following year, after successfully completing the Junior NCO Cadre, he advanced to Corporal, and by 2008, he had risen to the rank of Sergeant after completing the Senior NCO Cadre in 2006. He continued this upward trajectory, becoming Staff Sergeant in 2014, Warrant Officer Class Two in 2015, and ultimately Warrant Officer Class One in 2019. That same year, he was appointed Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM), initially for the newly formed Sixth Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve), and in 2020 he was appointed as RSM of the Third Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve). On March 21, 2025, he was appointed to act as the Brigade Sergeant Major for the Jamaica National Reserve.
Throughout his service, WO1 Miller held numerous leadership roles, including Section Second in Command, Section Commander, Platoon Commander, Colour Sergeant, Sergeant Major Instructor, Company Sergeant Major, and finally, Regimental Sergeant Major. He also served as an instructor on key training programs such as the Third Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve) Senior NCO Cadre in 2008 and the Warrant Officer Course in 2017 and 2018.
WO1 Miller has completed an extensive list of military training courses locally, including the Medical Cadre (1990), NCO courses from 2004 to 2006, Advanced Drill and Range Management Courses (2014), the Warrant Officer Course (2014), and the Basic Driving Course (2019). Internationally, he completed the British Train the Trainer Course in England (2006).
Outside of his military responsibilities, he pursued professional development in civilian education. He holds certifications in Electrical Installation Levels 1 through 3 (2018–2021), Training Assessment Level 4 (2021), and Training and Development Level 4 (2022), all through NCTVET. He also earned an MBA in Business Management from the European Business School of Barcelona in 2023 and completed the Port Facility Security Officer Course with REDTRAC in 2025.
His international experience includes training with foreign military counterparts in Puerto Rico and participation in Calypso Hop 2006 in Inverness, Scotland, as a member of the JDF contingent.
WO1 Miller’s exemplary service has been recognized through numerous awards: the Efficient Service Medal (2002), First Bar (2008), Second Bar (2014), and Third Bar (2019), the General Service Medal (2019), the Commendation Medal (2019), the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal (2012), and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal (2022).
In 2025, WO1 Miller was appointed as a Justice of the Peace, serving under the Kingston Chapter, further demonstrating his commitment to public service and community engagement.
He is a devoted husband and father of three, one daughter and two sons. In his personal time, he enjoys football (watching) and jogging.
