Major Paula A WADSWORTH
Major (Maj) Paula A Wadsworth followed an unexpected path in service to her nation, transitioning from a civilian in the Government Service to an Officer in the Jamaica Defence Force.
Major Wadsworth began her career at Jamaica’s Ministry of National Security as a Research Officer, where she demonstrated commendable dedication to duty. Through diligent effort, she advanced to Policy Analyst in the National Security Policy Coordination Unit, now the Office of the National Security Advisor, in the Office of the Cabinet. Her contributions included work on the revised National Security Policy for Jamaica. Her quest for knowledge and diligence then led her back to the Ministry of National Security where her proven capabilities and legal expertise earned her the position of Senior Legal Officer.
In her capacity as Senior Legal Officer in the Ministry of National Security, Major Wadsworth provided counsel to the Minister of National Security and the Permanent Secretary, while supporting various departments and agencies including the Firearm Licensing Authority, Department of Correctional Services, Institute of Foreign Science and Legal Medicine, Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency, Private Security Regulation Authority and Major Organized Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency. Her exemplary service and innovative contributions were recognized with the Ministry’s inaugural Leadership Award, and she takes particular pride in the highly motivated legal team she led.
Major Wadsworth also worked for a short, but meaningful stint in the Attorney General’s Chambers. Following her service there and after fifteen years in national security, Major Wadsworth answered the call to serve in the Jamaica Defence Force where she was commissioned on 4 October 2019.
In keeping with her duties, Major Wadsworth has tackled complex issues surrounding, inter alia, military law and maritime law. She maintains the highest standards of professionalism while mentoring junior military lawyers.
Major Wadsworth has been decorated with the Medal of Honour for General Service. Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science Degree (with honours) in Management Studies and Statistics, a Bachelor of Laws (with honours), a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Junior Command and Staff Leadership.
