Major (Maj) Kayson GUNZELL is a career Army Officer who joined the Jamaica Defence Force
(JDF) in August 2009. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science from the University of
the West Indies and a Masters in Cybersecurity from Teesside University, UK. Maj GUNZELL
completed his professional development training overseas at Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort
Huachuca, Arizona, US.
Maj GUNZELL has previously served in the Second Battalion, The Jamaica Regiment over the
period 2006-2013, and in the Maritime, Air and Cyber Command over the period 2013-2023,
where he was appointed as an Assistant Staff Officer .
In January 2023, Maj GUNZELL was appointed as the Staff Officer with responsibility for
Cyber, Communication and Information Systems (SO1 J6) at the Force Headquarters. He is the
first Officer that has been appointed in this capacity since the reorganisation of this staff function
in December 2022. His primary role includes the development and implementation of the JDF’s
Cyber and ICT strategies and plans to support long term objectives.
Maj GUNZELL was awarded the Medal of Honour for General Service with Clasp, in
recognition of his contribution to local operations.
