September 11, 2019, marked the inaugural partnership of the Maritime Air and Cyber Command (MAACC) with the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) Jamaica 580 Branch in commemorating and celebrating the Battle of Britain. This partnership is intended to yield greater success for years to come and rejuvenate interests in RAFA as an organization and its programmes for veterans.
The Battle of Britain commemorates the great victory won by the Royal Air Force that saved Britain from invasion in 1940. On Sunday, September 15, came what Sir Winston Churchill called one of the most “decisive battles of the war”. In Churchill’s words “The gratitude of every home in our island throughout the Empire and indeed throughout the world except in the abodes of the guilty goes out to the British Airmen who undaunted by the odds, unwearied in their constant challenge and mortal danger turned the tide of the world war by their prowess and their devotion. Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few”.
