Dr. Camille Bell-Hutchinson

Dr Camille Bell-Hutchinson has been an Educator for over four decades having served at both the secondary and tertiary levels of education in Jamaica as a classroom teacher and later as a Teacher Educator and Higher Education Administrator. She is the former Campus Registrar of The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus – a position which she held from August 2007 to July 2019 having been the first and only female to have held this position to date.

As Campus Registrar, Dr Bell-Hutchinson was the Chief Administrative Officer for The UWI Mona with a student population of approximately 20,000 and a staff cohort of 3,000. Her direct responsibilities spanned Student Affairs and all student-related administrative functions, Human Resources and Marketing and Communications while leading a team of approximately 200 in the Campus Registry in addition to being accountable, along with the Campus Principal, for the overall “good order” of the Campus. Dr Bell-Hutchinson played a lead role in streamlining and driving the automation of several administrative processes and in guiding the Mona Campus into becoming the first University in Jamaica to be accorded Institutional Accreditation by the University Council of Jamaica. In 2019 she was again instrumental in the process for re-accreditation for The UWI Mona.

Dr Bell-Hutchinson is a graduate of The UWI, Mona and holds a Bachelor of Science (General) degree in Mathematics and Chemistry, a Post-Graduate Diploma with Distinction in Education, a Master of Arts in Education, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education with specialization in Mathematics Education. She was the first Doctoral graduate in Mathematics Education at The UWI, Mona. Dr Bell-Hutchinson also holds a Professional Certificate in Human Resource Management from Rutgers University, a Certificate in Introductory Project Management from Florida International University and is an alumna of Cornell University’s distinguished Administrative Management Institute.

Her career at the UWI was a diverse one having served as Lecturer in both the Sociology of Education and Mathematics Education, Head of the Science, Mathematics and Information Technology Centre and Deputy Dean (Academic Quality Assurance). She also served as Senior Programme Officer in the Office of the Board for Undergraduate Studies in the UWI Centre with responsibility for Academic Quality Assurance on the Mona Campus.

Dr Bell-Hutchinson continues to offer service to education nationally and internationally and is currently the Chair of the National Mathematics Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, and a member of the Organization of American States (OAS) Academic and Technical Studies Scholarships Selection Committee.
