Colonel M E Williams
Colonel Mahatma Ernest WILLIAMS joined the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) on the 20th September 1993. He attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, in May 1994 and was awarded the prestigious Overseas Cane for being the top overseas student. Whilst at Sandhurst Colonel WILLIAMS represented the academy and went on to represent the British Army, as a boxer. Colonel WILLIAMS attended various military courses to include the Platoon Commanders Battle Course (UK 1997), the Jamaica Junior Command and Staff Course (Jamaica 1999), The US Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare Course at the US Marine Corps University (USA, 2006), Managing Defence in a Wider Security Context Course (MDWSC) at University of Cranfield (UK 2008), Legal Aspects of Combating Terrorism Course at the Defence Institute of International Legal Studies (USA, 2011) Command and General Staff Course (GGSC) at the US Army War College Fort Leavenworth (USA 2012) and Canadian Security Studies Programme (CSSP) (Can 2014).
Colonel WILLIAMS served on tour as platoon commander in the United Nations Mission in Haiti (UNMIH). He also served as Regimental Intelligence Officer, Training Officer, Adjutant, Officer Commanding, ADC to the Governor-General of Jamaica, SO2 J3 (Operations), Detachment Commander CTOG and SO1 J2/J3 (Operations and Intelligence)/Director of the Joint Information and Operations Centre (JIOC). Colonel WILLIAMS commanded the
1 Engr Regt (JDF) and stood up the new Directorate of Training and Doctrine Battalion.
Colonel WILLIAMS was appointed Colonel General Staff at HQ JDF where he has Principal Staff responsibilities for Operations; Intelligence; Strategy, Plans and Policy;Communication; Training;Civil Military Cooperation and Media Affairs,
Colonel WILLIAMS has been awarded the Medal of Honour for Meritorious Service, Medal of Honour for Service with Clasp (Haiti), the United Nations Medal for Service in Military Operations (Haiti), the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and a special commendation from the Commanding General of the United Nation Mission in Haiti (1994).
Colonel WILLIAMS is the holder of a Bachelor of Science Degree, double major (with honours),in Economics and International Relations, a Master of Science (Msc) Degree in Economic Development Policy from the University of the West Indies and a Master of Arts Degree (MMAS) in Military Arts and Science from the United States Army Command and General Staff College.
Colonel WILLIAMS is married to Trudie Anne and has two sons, Mahatma Junior and Rajiv.
