Jamaica Defence Force celebrates the 47th anniversary of the enlistment of the first female Officers.

Today, the Jamaica Defence Force celebrates the 47th anniversary of the enlistment of the first female Officers.

On this day in 1976, five women – Grace Viola Barclay, Suzanne Antoinette Haik, Flore’Jer Ann Veronia Cameron, Gennis Marie Copeland and Yola Teresa Cain made history as the first female officers in the Force. This groundbreaking accomplishment would pave the way for generations of female Officers who would go on to fill various leadership roles in the Force.
Today, we pay homage to these women, whose courage, strength and fortitude ignited a movement that would transcend time and generations.
The JDF salutes these pioneering women and the generations of women that followed. Your indelible mark has blazed a trail of excellence that has advanced this Force.
We salute you!
