ALLEGATIONS OF ABUSES BY JDF PERSONNEL ON OPERATIONS

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is aware of allegations that members of the Force were involved in an incident that resulted in the injury of a teenager in Majestic Gardens on Sunday 26 April 2020, and of further allegations of soldiers directing persons found breaching curfew orders to perform particular acts as apparent corrective measures. Internal investigations in respect of the allegations are ongoing.

The JDF reiterates its commitment to securing the country and protecting our people. The Force Headquarters has consistently asserted the unequivocal unacceptability of members of the Force misusing their authority by subjecting any member of the population to any form of abuse. We commit to ensuring that strong corrective measures are applied in any case where soldiers are found to perpetrate, facilitate, allow or fail to report acts of abuse.

Anyone having information regarding the matters mentioned, or any complaint in respect of the actions of any member of the JDF, is urged to call the JDF Tip Line at 876-837-8888.
