Warrant Officer Class One Rohan A Lewis

Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Rohan Lewis was born on the 14th of February 1965 to mother Gwendolyn Gordon in Windsor Castle District in the Parish of Portland, Jamaica.  He was educated at the Windsor Castle All Age School and was successful in the Common Entrance Examination in 1977 and was enrolled in the Titchfield High School in Port Antonio, Portland.

WO1 Lewis was enlisted in the Jamaica Defence Force on the 15th of July 1988 and trained in the Intake #61 at Moneague Training Camp, St Ann.

On the completion of basic training he was posted to Charlie Company First Battalion the Jamaica Regiment (1 JR) on the 8th of December 1988 where he served as a rifleman and a section 2IC until 1994.  After successfully completing the Section Commander’s Battle Course he was transferred to Bravo Company of the Second Battalion the Jamaica Regiment (2 JR).  After two years with the “Maroon Machine “, WO1 Lewis was transferred to the Support and Services Battalion and was posted to the Newcastle Training Depot, now Caribbean Infantry Training Centre (CITC), for ten (10) years where he served as a Recruit Instructor and was a part of the Instructing Staff for all local courses held in the depot until February 2002.

In 2002 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant while still being posted to the Support and Services Battalion he then served at the Provost Unit, now Corps of Military Police (CMP), for two years then moving on to the Supply Depot, now Logistics Company, where he served a further four years.

In 2009, WO1 Lewis was promoted to SSgt and returned to the Newcastle Training Depot, renamed at the time to the Military Training Wing.  He served there in various capacities until 2015 when he was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer Class Two and had the distinction of being the first Chief Instructor in the history of the JDF at the time to train an intake of 250 recruits.

In 2015 he was posted to 2 JR where he served as a Company Sergeant Major.  In 2018 he was posted to the newly formed Directorate of Training and Doctrine (DTD) where he served as the Drill Sergeant.  He was subsequently employed as a member of the permanent staff attached to the Jamaica National Reserve.

WO1 Lewis was then promoted to the rank of WO1 on the 1 August 2020 and appointed Regimental Sergeant Major for 1 JR (First and Foremost!) where he is presently serving.

He has successfully completed various courses to include; Potential NCOs Cadre, Section Commanders Battle Course, Platoon Sergeant Battle Course, Advance Drill Course, Warrant Officers Course and Supervisory Management Course. He also completed courses overseas to include All Arms Instructor Skill At Arms Course (Warminster ITC, Wales, UK ) and Advanced Range Management Course (Warminster ITC, Wales, UK).

WO1 Lewis is a widower who has fathered four (4) children with his late wife Marlene.  He enjoys swimming, playing volleyball and a good game of dominoes in his spare time.
