Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Christopher O’Neil Leigh is the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of the Second Battalion the Jamaica Regiment (2 JR). He is a graduate of DeCarteret College in the parish of Manchester. On 17th July 1994 he enlisted in the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF). After completing basic training in Newcastle Training Depot, now Caribbean Infantry Training Centre (CITC), he was posted to the 2 JR as an Infanteer.
During his career he has served in various appointments which include: Rifleman (1995-1996) and Drummer (1996-2008). He also served as a Force Physical Training Instructor (2006-2008). In 2002 he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal, in 2006 promoted to Corporal and in 2008 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was then appointed Permanent Staff Instructor (PSI) at the Jamaica Combined Cadet Force (JCCF). In 2011 he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and appointed as the Drum Major of the First Battalion the Jamaica Regiment (1 JR). In 2015 he was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer Class Two and was appointed as the Provost Warrant at 1 JR.
In August of 2015 he was transferred to Combat Support Battalion (Cbt Sp Bn) where he served as the Warrant Officer in charge of Recruiting. He was again posted to 2 JR in 2018 where he served as Company Sergeant Major, Training Warrant Officer and Drill Sergeant. In 2020 he was promoted to WO1.
WO1 Leigh has attended a number of military and other professional courses throughout his military career to include: Physical Instructor’s Course, Close Protection Course, Chinese Martial Arts, All Arms Service Funds Course, French Commandos Course, Supervisory Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Warrant Officers Course, Advance Drill Course and Peer Support Training Course. He holds a Diploma in Military Operations Level 3 as well as a Diploma from the United States Army Sergeant Major Academy.
WO1 Leigh is an avid footballer who enjoys listening to vintage and instrumental music and socializing.
His philosophy is “Simplicity is the Way to Life”. WO1 Leigh is married with four children.
