Lieutenant Commander Marcq Lewin

Lieutenant Commander Marcq Lewin was born on May 29, 1987, at the Nuttall Memorial Hospital in the parish of St. Andrew, Jamaica. His early education began at Wolmer’s Preparatory School, after which he continued to Wolmer’s High School for Boys from 1999 to 2004. During his time there, he completed his GCE ‘O’ Level examinations. Demonstrating an early interest in the sciences, he furthered his education at Excelsior Community College, studying Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.

His military journey commenced with basic training at Newcastle in St. Andrew. Following this, he travelled to the United Kingdom, where he underwent initial officer and basic navigation training at the prestigious Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth. Upon completion of his training, Lieutenant Commander Lewin was posted to the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coast Guard.

Throughout his career, Lieutenant Commander Lewin has held a wide range of key positions and appointments. These include serving as Museum Officer, Fire & Safety Officer, Account Holder for the Petty Officer’s Mess, Military Transport Officer, Weapons Officer, Dive Officer, Navigation Officer aboard HMJS SURREY, Executive Officer aboard HMJS MIDDLESEX, Commanding Officer of HMJS CORNWALL, Outstation Commander, and Commanding Officer of HMJS NANNY OF THE MAROONS. He currently serves as the Acting Commanding Officer for the 2nd District, JDF Coast Guard.

Lieutenant Commander Lewin has also distinguished himself through specialized training both locally and internationally. In 2013, he completed the International First-Class Diving Officers Course in Panama City, Florida. In 2015, he attended the Advanced Navigation Course at the Dalian Naval Academy in China.

He has participated in two Counter Terrorism Courses facilitated by the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, and has received certification as a Port Facility Security Auditor from the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ). Additionally, he was trained as a Maritime Intelligence Officer by the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency.

His academic and leadership training includes completion of the Caribbean Junior Command and Staff Course at the Caribbean Institute of Professional Military Education in 2019 and the Naval Staff Course at the United States Naval War College in 2020.

Lieutenant Commander Lewin has a dynamic set of interests that include competitive shooting, SCUBA diving, competitive swimming, photography, and yacht racing.
