Major Sheldon O Bryan
Major (Maj) Sheldon O Bryan joined the Jamaica Defence Force in October 2004, after completing his BSc in Software Engineering at the University of Technology (UTECH). After completing initial officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS), England, he was posted to the Second Battalion the Jamaica Regiment (2 JR ), where he spent the next six years of his service. He held varying appointments such as Platoon Commander, Regimental Signals Officer, Adjutant and Officer Commanding in that unit.
In 2009, Major Bryan was posted to the Headquarters Jamaica Defence Force Intelligence Unit, where he was in command of Information Operations. He had the direct responsibility and oversight for the planning and execution of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations. Major Bryan has participated in several multinational exercises to include PANAMAX 2014 -2016, where he was in charge of planning and executing cyber operations in support of the Defence of the Panama Canal.
He completed his Cyber Security Leadership training at the National Defence University in December 2013. He also completed his Master of Science in Cyber Security, specializing in Cyber Operations at the Utica College, New York. Major Bryan was also a member of the National Cyber Security Strategy (NCSS) Development team launched in 2015 and played an integral role in the development of the Technical working group for the NCSS.
In February 2016, Major Bryan was appointed Staff Officer in the Headquarters, Jamaica Defence Force, responsible for Information and Communications System. In 2017 he was appointed Manager for the National Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance project dubbed the “JamaicaEye”, where he commanded its design and implementation. Major Bryan was assigned command of the Support and Services Battalion in June 2020, where he had direct responsibility over the logistics support for the JDF. In January 2021, he was appointed to his current post of Acting Staff Officer in charge of Strategy, Plans, Policy and Information Systems & Communications (A/SO1 J5/J6 Strat, Plans & Pols/Info Sys & Comms) in the headquarters of Jamaica Defence Force. Major bryan also heads the Critical Infrastructure Sub-Committee for the review of the National Cyber Security Strategy.
He enjoys playing football, table tennis and travelling to historic sites. He is currently married with one child.
