SOE declared in Hanover, St James and Westmoreland

The Most Honourable Andrew Holness, Prime Minister speaking at a Press Conference at Jamaica House on April 30, 2019. During the press conference the Prime Minister declared a State of Public Emergency (SOE) for the parishes of Westmoreland, St. James and Hanover.

A state of emergency has been declared for Hanover, St James and Westmoreland. Prime Minister Andrew Holness made the announcement a short while ago and argued that the decision was made based on a request by the security forces. The SOE will be in effect for the next 14 days on a proclamation by Governor General. If necessay it will be extended for up to three months by a two-thirds majority of both Houses of Parliament.
